Why 17 characters instead of one assistant
Most AI apps for children ship a single persona. WimziPal ships a cast, for a practical reason rather than a decorative one: children pick a character and stay with it, and the buddy they pick tells you something about what they want to talk about. A child who chooses Professor Hoo wants space. A child who chooses Doozy wants to be made to laugh. The roster does the work a settings menu would otherwise have to do, and a four-year-old can operate it.
It also spreads the attachment. A single always-there assistant is the design that makes parents uneasy, and reasonably so. Questions parents ask about the buddies
Are all the buddies free?
Yes. All 17 buddies are unlocked on every plan, including the free one. There is no character to buy and no buddy behind a paywall. What a subscription buys is more activity, not more characters.
Can my child talk to more than one buddy?
Yes, and most children do. Your child can switch buddy whenever they like, and each one has its own voice, its own personality and its own favourite subjects. Switching does not lose anything.
Do the buddies sound different from each other?
Yes. Every buddy has its own distinct voice: Professor Hoo is brilliantly British, Tiko is slow and ancient, Granny Rocket is at full volume. It is the difference children notice first.
Which buddy is best for a younger child?
For a three- or four-year-old, the ones that lean on warmth and silliness tend to land best: Bobo, Monty and Doozy. Older children often gravitate to Professor Hoo for space and science or Rizzo for puzzles. There is no wrong choice and no commitment.
